Your alarm wakes you up. You look at the time. 4 in the morning. You don't want to get out of bed and go to work, after all you didn't actually go to bed until midnight, but you also really need the money. That car insn't going to pay for itself! But you're sooooo tired.
You decide you're too tired and want to get more sleep. Who cares if you're a little late to work anyway? So you roll back over and go to [[sleep]].
You decide it's worth going to [[work]] so you throw the blankets off and start to get ready. After a quick shower you pull on your uniform and walk out to you car. You pull out of your driveway and are on your way to work. As you approach an intersection the light turns yellow.
You don't think you have time to stop so you [[speed]] up and pass under the light just before it turns red.
There's no way you'll make it past the light in time so you [[stop.]] You sigh in relief. You made the light! but your cell phone suddenly rings. You glance at the caller ID. Why is your mother calling?
You [[answer]] the phone despite being confused as to why she'd be calling at this early hour.
You're driving so you let the call go to [[voicemail]]. You slam on your brakes and you car screeches to a stop. You barely have time to think 'man, I actually could have made it' before something hits your car from behind and is pushed forward a few feet. By the time the shock of being hit wears off the car behind you is backing up and trying to flee.
You let it slide, after all you do have great insurance, and you let the car [[go]]
How dare they try to run away! You [[chase]] after the car with the hopes of catching their license plate. Your mother tells you that your father is in the hospital. Another heart attack. That's his third one.
Once you're off the phone with your mother you call out from work immediately. You're manager pretends not to be pissed. You can tell she is, but you don't care. You never liked her anyway.
You drive to the [[hospital.]]You ignore the call and finish the drive to work. You park and rush inside to clock in. Your manager sees that you're late and approaches you.
"Late again?" She says, that nazally tone just adding to your irritation of the day.
You decide to [[apologize]] for being late.
You're fed up with her [[snarky]] comments and decide to tell her about it. You pull over on the side of the road to gauge the damage. The bumper's a little cracked, but your car is still usable. You can wait until after work to call the insurance company and figure out how to get your car fixed.
You get back in your car, but before you can do anyting your phone rings. It's your mom.
It's your mother so you [[answer]] the call.
You decide you don't have the time to talk to her right now, after all you had just been in a minor car accident and was already going to be late for work, and let the call go to [[voicemail]]. You speed after the car, fumbling with your phone to turn on the camera. You manage to take a picture of the license plate and slow down.
Sirens suddenly blare behind you and you glance in the rearview mirror. A cop is now following you.
You curse. You're really not in the modd for thise nor do you have the time! but you pull over anyway and nervously wait as the cop approaches your car.
He tells you that you were going twenty over the speedlimit. Were you really? It doesn't matter at this point.
You try to explain the situation to him, that you were just trying to get the license plate of a car that hit you. You even show him the photo. He looks at it, and takes a trip to the back of your car to see the damage.
While he's gone your phone rings, but you don't dare answer it and it goes to [[voicemail]].
When the cop returns he tells you that he'll let you off with a warning. "I'm so sorry. It wont happen again," you say.
She just rolls her eyes. "It better not or I'll have to write you up."
She walks away and you rush behind the counter to start your eight hours of making coffee.
The rest of the day is pretty mundane, nothing else 'exciting' happens to you. You avoid your manager and your manager avoids you so there are no other awkward encounters.
By the time your eight hours are up you're exhausted and just want to go home. You clock out and walk out to your car. You go to put on some music for the ride home when you notice that you have a voicemail. That's right, your mother called this morning.
You listen to the voicemail and you feel the blood drain from your face. Your father had another heart attack.
You immediately speed off in the direction of the hospital feeling guilty. Why didn't you answer your phone earlier? Why didn't you check your voicemail earlier?
Your cheeks are wet with tears, your eyes full of them. You go to wipe them away and that's when the truck hits [[you]]. You don't know how long you're asleep for before your phone goes off again, but this time it's your mother calling.
You [[answer]] the call even though you're still tired.
You're too tired to talk to her right now so you let it go to [[voicemail]]. You run inside the hospital and rush to the right floor and to the room number that your mother gave you.
Your father is laying in a bed, your mother sitting at his side. He's sleeping, she's crying so you immediately wrap her in your arms.
"He's okay," she cries. "I was just so worried."
"I know," you whisper. "He's okay."
[[THE END|Work Day]]You say, "as a manger you shouldn't be speaking to me with that tone."
She's dumbfounded, but quickly gets over it. "And as my employee you shouldn't be arriving late every other day, but since you want to argue, how does probation sound?"
"Probation?" You asked uncertain of what the term means for you.
She nods. "That's right. You're on probation until I have a chat with HR. You can go home now and don't bother coming in the rest of the week. You'll be contacted IF you can come back to work."
She storms up to her office and you're left feeling a little confused and a lot angry.
Not having any other choice you go back out to your car. Before you drive off you realize you have a voicemail and listen to it. It's your mother. Your father had another heart attack.
You toss your phone on the seat angrily. Why didn't you answer the phone earlier?
You speed off to the hospital, breaking too many driving laws to count, but you're too angry to care. When another light turns yellow you speed through it without even thinking if you have the time and narrowly avoid being T-boned by a truck.
You just curse and continue driving to the [[hospital.]]You wake up in the hospital with your mother sitting by your bed. The first thing you ask is if your father is okay and she reassures you that he is.
She points across the room and tells you that he's actually your roommate laying in the other bed.
You sigh in relief.
You're both going to be okay.
